MIDNIGHT RUN NYC (7.30 pm- 1.30am)

(ENGL) As I'm taking the class "Race, Class and Gender in Contemporary America", it is obligatory to do a few hours of community service. After I heard of the "Midnight Run in NYC" program, I thought it might be a good idea to do this as a community service. This program helps homeless people in New York City by giving them food, clothes and blankets. The Rider University is part of it and therefore it wasn't complicated to participate.
When I arrived at the chapel on campus I had to help to load the van with all the food and clothes people had donated for the homeless people. At around 7.30pm we headed for NYC. It was three other girls (one of them was Maja) and two other guys.
To cut a long story short: It was an experience I will never ever forget! Even though I was at first a bit afraid of the homeless people, in the end it all went away because they were really nice and grateful that we helped them. It opened my eyes to many things and made me realize that I should be happy for all the things in my life and that I shouldn't take everything I have for granted! I have to admit, that I even cried! It just touched me a lot! A great, great experience! Everyone should do something like this once!

(D) Ein Teil meiner "Race, Class and Gender in Contemporary America" Vorlesung ist es, einige Stunden Gemeindedienst zu leisten und da ich von der Organisation"Midnight Run in NYC" gehört habe, dachte ich mir, das wäre eine gute Idee dabei zu sein und so meine Stunden "abzuarbeiten". Diese Organisation versorgt die Obdachlosen in NYC mit Essen, Kleidung und Decken. Da die Rider Uni auch dabei ist, war es für mich kein Problem dabei zu sein.
Als ich in der Kirche am Kampus ankam, half ich den anderen Essen, Kleidung, Decken und anderes in den Wagen zu tragen. Dann fuhren wir los- drei andere Mädels (eine davon war Maja) und noch zwei Burschen. Es war dann gegen halb 8 am Abend.
Um es kurz zu machen: Es war eine Erfahrung die ich nie wieder vergessen werde! Obwohl ich am Anfang ein bisschen Angst hatte und nicht wirklich wusste, was mich da erwartet, war es nach dem ersten Kontakt mit den Obdachlosen super! Die waren alle so nett und lieb und natürlich auch dankbar, dass wir ihnen helfen! Dieser Abend half mir sehr, sehr viele Dinge zu begreifen und auch anders zu sehen! Ich sollte froh sein, ein solches Leben zu führen und auch dankbar für all das was ich hab! Es ist nicht alles selbstverständlich! Zugegeben, ich hab sogar geweint! Es war einfach sehr rührend für mich! Eine tolle Erfahrung und jeder sollte bei so etwas einmal dabei gewesen sein!

(HR) Dio mog kursa "Race, Class and Gender in Contemporary America" je raditi par sati u nekoj dobrovoljnoj organizaciji, a posto sam ja cula o organizaciji koja se zove "Midnight Run in NYC", sam si mislila, da bi to bila dobra ideja tamo sudjelovati. Ta organizacija pomaze bezkucnima u NYC-u i daje im hranu, odjecu, deke i druge stvari koje im trebaju. Posto i Rider sveuciliste sudjejule u tom programu nisam imala nikakvih problema sudjelovati.
Kad sam stigla kod crkve na kampusu sam odmah pomogla staviti sve stvari koje su ljudi darovali za bezkucnike, u auto. Oko pola osam na vece smo krenuli prema NYC-u- jos tri cure i dva decka.
Da skratim pricu: To je bio dozivljalj koji vise nikada necu zaboraviti! Iako sam na pocetku bila malo nesigurna i malo sam se cak i bojala, posto nisam znala kako ce to sve biti, je sve ispalo super! Bezkucnici su bili jako ljubazni i jako zahvalni sto im mi pomazemo! Ta vece mi je otvorila oci i shvatila sam da trebam biti zahvalna za sve sto imam i trebam biti sretna sto mogu ovako zivjeti kako zivim! Nije sve normalno sto se ima u zivotu! Moram i priznati da sam cak i plakala ... jednostavno me je dirnulo! Super dozivljaj! I svatko od nas bi trebao jednom u zivotu sudjelovati u tako necemu!
